BRING YOUR VISION INTO ACTION
The chess world is poised for a tectonic shift as FIDE unveils its groundbreaking World Cup exclusively for budding youth talents.
For the first time in history, FIDE will host a dedicated World Cup for future chess prodigies in three age brackets – under 8, under 10 and under 12. This monumental tournament aims to provide a platform for young phenoms to announce themselves on the global stage.
The event will unfold in Batumi, Georgia from June 22 to July 3, 2024 with separate Open and Girls sections. 48 incredibly gifted young players in each category will battle through a 7-round Swiss system before the knockout finals.
FIDE will cover costs for top qualifiers, emphasizing their commitment to accessibility. Engaging side activities are also planned like a blitz tournament for coaches and cultural programs.
The World Cup will offer dazzling prizes like laptops, smartphones and tablets to the winners. The top three will also receive free stay during the 2024 World Cadet Championship.
As FIDE Events Commission Chairman, Akaki Iashvili explained, this tournament fulfills FIDE’s mission of promoting chess at the grassroots. It will provide invaluable exposure to develop the superstars of the future.
India will be eager to discover the next Praggnanandhaa or Gukesh here. For chess fans, it promises a glimpse into the future of the sport. Make sure to follow all the action from Batumi 2024 live as the chess world witnesses the birth of tomorrow’s champions!
